Hotel evacuated during Jewish wedding after ceiling collapse

500 guests escaped unharmed from Sheraton Grand London Park Lane after a plaster ceiling collapsed during a Jewish wedding at the weekend.

Emergency services confirmed they received no reports of any injuries.

Four fire engines and around 30 firefighters were called to the hotel  at around 4.30pm on Sunday and remained on site until 7.45pm, according to the London Fire Brigade.

The incident, which is believed to have been caused by a water leak, took place in the Silver Gallery in the ground floor lobby, which has been closed.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “No one was trapped and there were no reported casualties. The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.”

A spokesperson for the hotel said: “The Silver Gallery remains closed while repair work takes place. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
