How Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman movie helped the UK economy

Israeli actress Gal Gadot’s turn as Wonder Woman helped the UK economy out of the doldrums, it seems, after new figures revealed that box-office receipts and film production accounted for almost one third of second-quarter growth.

Gadot, who was crowned Miss Israel 2004, plays the fictional DC Comics superhero in the Warner Bros. film, released on 2 June, box office receipts for which added to the UK’s gross domestic product, according to analysts.

Figures show that the film industry grew by more than eight percent in the quarter and contributed to almost a third of the UK’s total growth from April to July.

According to the Office for National Statistics, growth in the UK’s motion picture sector have grown by more than 70 percent over the last three years – far more than in any other European country.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hammond has not commented on the Israeli actress’s contribution, but it is thought he thinks the Gal’s done good.
