Hundreds expected at JVN’s 2024 volunteering awards
Jewish News media partner for the community's biggest annual celebration of volunteers with categories including Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Team of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement.
The community’s leading faith-based volunteering charity is hosting its annual award ceremony on 14th January 2024.
The Jewish Volunteering Network (JVN) event at a top Hertfordshire hotel will honour the remarkable volunteers and teams who have dedicated their time and passion to charities whose causes reflect their values and mean so much to them.
The ceremony will welcome new charities into the event and expects more 350 volunteers, charities and community professionals to recognise achievements in categories such as Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Team of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement.
A JVN spokesperson told Jewish News, media partner for the awards: “Since 7th October, volunteering became the vehicle both here and in Israel utilised to help deal with the impact that this war has had on all of us. JVN was immediately contacted by a large number of people seeking ways to practically support those living in Israel and we were able to signpost them to charities offering immediate help to those impacted by the war.
“For those that couldn’t help Israel directly, we re-emphasized the importance of our own local charities, who still need as much help as possible. This resulted in a surge of people wanting to support our community in this time of adversity.”
Rachelle Lazarus, JVN charity engagement and volunteer manager said: “While the tone of the event may differ from previous celebrations, we know this year’s award ceremony to be especially poignant. It serves as a reminder that, united, we are stronger in facing challenges brought about by the war. Together, we honour the resilience, dedication, and compassion that volunteers bring to the forefront.”
More than 90 heroes from 46 charities were honoured at the JVN awards in January 2023. The event was held in honour of JVN founder Leonie Lewis following her sudden death in April 2022 aged 66 after a diagnosis of lymphoma.
