Ilford schoolboy receives posthumous letter from the Queen
Seven-year-old is proud recipient of one of the last letters sent by Her Majesty, posted on the day she died.
A stunned Jewish schoolboy has received a letter sent by the Queen, posted on the day she died.
Seven-year-old Charlie Berg, who attends Clore Tikva School in Barkingside, wrote to Her Majesty to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
He was shocked to receive a reply, stamped with the Royal coat of arms, expressing “grateful thanks for your kind message on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of my accession to the throne”.
It was posted on 8 September – the day of the Queen’s passing.
Charlie, who lives in Ilford, said: ‘When I opened the card from the Queen I was really excited and happy. I was smiling. I wanted to write to the Queen because I wanted her to visit my house so I could tell her about my family and hear all about her family. My mum is going to frame the letter and put it somewhere safe so I can show all my friends.”
Charlie’s mother Gemma Berg said: “I feel emotional about it. I was shocked that it had the post mark from the date she had sadly passed away and knew how excited Charlie would be. When he found out about her death he asked me: ‘Do you think read my letter?’ Then we received her reply!”
Margot Buller, head teacher at Clore Tikva School, said: “As a school we have always taught the children to honour and respect the monarch. Earlier in the year we undertook celebrations for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, and we were so pleased that the children really engaged with the occasion. For one of our students to directly correspond with the monarch and receive a letter from the Queen on the day of her passing shows her dedication to her role.”
He is now busy writing his next letter to congratulate His Majesty King Charles III on his accession to the throne and hopes he will visit his house soon.
