Shtisel star Shira Haas has revealed she was moved to tears by the script for season three of the warm drama series about the daily gripes and joys of a strictly Orthodox family.

The Israeli actress, who last month teased her fans with a selfie featuring the manuscript, told the outlet Jewish Journal earlier this week that she cried several times while reading the script.

The series, in which she plays Ruchami Weiss, the lead character’s niece, will return to small screens with “an amazing season. Really powerful.”

“I cried a few times when I read the script and I’m not usually a crier,” she said.

Production, originally due to begin again in May, faced delays amid the coronavirus pandemic, but Haas’s photo of the script marked July 2020, renewed speculation about a possible return to filming this month.

Haas rose to international acclaim after being cast in the leading role on the film Unorthodox, which depicts a 19 year-old member of the Satmar Hasidic community’s journey to Berlin from her native Brooklyn.
