The two interim co-chief executives of the Jewish Leadership Council, Claudia Mendoza and Michelle Janes, have now been appointed to their posts permanently.

The two women, who were already respectively director of policy and public affairs, and executive director of Lead, at the JLC, were first appointed on an interim basis in June last year, following the departure of Simon Johnson. Theirs is the first executive shared post in a major Jewish communal organisation.

JLC chair Jonathan Goldstein said:I am delighted that Claudia and Michelle have agreed to continue as co CEOs of the Jewish Leadership Council. Since being appointed six months ago, they have led the organisation through a highly turbulent period with great determination, collaboration and skill. I look forward to working with them to advance the communitys strategic ambitions, as we continue to support our member organisations and the recovery of the Jewish charitable sector”.

He paid tribute to the Commission on Women in Jewish Leadership, established by his predecessor Sir Mick Davis to address the lack of women in senior roles in the community, which, he said, “undoubtedly helped pave the way for todays exciting announcement.
