Israel hits Gaza twice in two days as peace slips away

Israeli warplanes bombed five targets in the Gaza Strip over the weekend in what the country’s military said was “retaliation against terrorist aggression” after over 100 rockets were fired at Israel in the last month.

The jets took aim at five targets, what a military spokesman called “terror sites,” in precision strikes that resulted in no deaths.

“It is our obligation to seek out those that wish to attack us, eliminate their capabilities and pursue them wherever they hide,” said Lt. Col. Peter Lerner.

Saturday’s attack comes only a day after another Israeli missile strike targeted Jabaliya refugee camp, in the northern Gaza Strip, reducing a metal workshop to rubble.

The latest Israeli assault puts more pressure on tortured talks between Israelis and Palestinians reach yet another impasse, and US Secretary of State John Kerry sounded exacerbated when describing the latest incident as “not helpful”.
