Elisha Levy’s side only had to pride to play for, after defeats at home to Albania and away in Italy put pay to any lingering hopes they had of reaching the World Cup finals in Russia next summer.

The decisive strike was scored in the 21st minute, when Tibi pounced to fire home the rebound after Brighton & Hove Albion striker Tomer Hemed had seen his header parried away.

Levy, who is expected to be in charge of the team for the final time, when they end their campaign against Spain in Jerusalem on Monday evening, said: “We are happy we won and we could have done so by a greater margin had we taken our chances.”
