IDF hits back after two soldiers wounded near Lebanon

Israeli forces fired over a dozen artillery shells into Lebanon in retaliation after at least two IDF troops were injured in a blast on Tuesday.

An IDF spokesman said it was “an explosive device planted with the intention of attacking Israeli soldiers” while Lebanon’s Daily Star reported that an Israeli tank detonated the device while passing through a military route.

The incident took place near the southern Lebanese village of Kafr Shouba, just 200 metres from a residential area, and comes just two days after the shooting of a Lebanese soldier in the same area.

Technically Israel and Lebanon are still in the state of war, following the month-long conflict between the IDF and Hezbollah in 2006.
