Israel presses ahead with construction of 42 settlement homes

The go-ahead for more building comes in the way of the murder of a 13-year old Israeli girl in her bed

A settlement in the West Bank

Israel is pushing forward with the construction of dozens of homes in a Jewish West Bank settlement.

It issued a tender for the 42 homes in the Kyriat Arba settlement on Wednesday.

Israel announced that it was pressing ahead with the construction following the deadly stabbing by a Palestinian of a 13-year-old Israeli girl in the settlement last week.

The tender comes a day after an Israeli official said Israel has authorised the construction of hundreds of new homes in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

The government has presented the new construction as a response to a series of deadly Palestinian attacks against Jewish settlers.

The Palestinians have long viewed settlement construction as the biggest obstacle to the stalled peace process.
