Israel set to pass law to give Palestinian stone throwers 10 years
The bill would replace an existing law that only allows stone-throwers to be jailed if it can be proven they intended to inflict harm. The new law instead considers whether it was “in a manner that could endanger the passenger’s safety”.
New far-right Justice Minister, Ayelet Shaked, presented the bill, saying stone-throwers were currently receiving “very soft punishments compared to their crimes”.
Palestinians regularly target Israeli cars on West Bank roads, and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police often tend to involve stone-throwing.
