Israel will be among the 192 states taking part in the 2020 World Expo in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson said: “This is the latest World Expo that Israel has participated in, and we look forward to sharing our innovative spirit and the advances our entrepreneurs and innovators are making in the various fields such as water, information and medical technologies.”

The Dubai Expo will be called: “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, with sub-themes of Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity.

Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “In today’s highly interconnected world, a renewed vision of progress and development based on shared purpose and commitment is key. While a married human mind, an individual country, or a specific community is both unique and remarkable, it is by working collaboratively that we truly advance.”

Israel’s participation comes amid growing ties with the Gulf states and follows visits to Oman by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other ministerial meetings in Bahrain and elsewhere.

“Expos are global gatherings where people from around the world come together to celebrate ingenuity and apply it to shared challenges. We are excited to be a part of that common endeavour,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.

It will be the first World Expo and largest event to be held in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, and Sheikh Al Makhtoum promised Dubai would “astonish the world.”. #

Director General of Dubai Municipality, Hussain Nasser Lootah, said that they have the largest laboratory in the region, and can easily research new materials and technologies required for construction.

The world’s tallest commercial tower, in Jumeirah Lake Towers, was given the name “Burj 2020” in honour of the World Expo 2020.

Millions of visitors from around the globe are expected to attend. The organisers said: “Here they will experience warm Emirati hospitality at its finest, as well as the UAE’s values of inclusion, tolerance and cooperation.

“Youth are at the heart of our World Expo. That’s why Expo 2020 aspires to create a meaningful legacy that will benefit generations to come, both locally and globally, spanning everything from innovations and architecture to friendships and business opportunities.”
