Israeli boy killed amid latest barrage from Gaza

A mortar attack has  killed an Israeli child in Shaar HaNegev.

The four-year-old boy was in a car when the missile struck, according to Hatzolah’s Twitter account. He is the first Israeli child to die in the six-week conflict and brings the number of civilians killed in Israel to four.

The attack comes on the same day as three Israelis were injured when another rocket struck a synagogue in Ashdod. The missile was one of more than 350 to be fired from Gaza since Hamas broke the latest ceasefire on Tuesday.

“There is damage at the scene and a number of people were injured by shrapnel,” police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said as the international community continues to seek an end to the six-week conflict. A woman in her 40s, who was moderately wounded, was treated at Barzilai medical centre while two men suffered light injuries.

More than 70 rockets were fired towards Israel on Friday alone, while Israel carried out 30 airstrikes in which at least four people died.
