An Israeli businessman was among the dead after a plane crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday.

Eyal Baum, 40, who was living in Germany, was flying home from Barcelona aboard Flight 4U 9525 when it came down, Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday.

Baum was among 144 passengers and six crew members killed when the plane operated by Lufthansa’s budget airline suddenly nosedived in mysterious circumstances, with no distress signal issued.

Investigators say the plane’s black box has been found, but recovering the remains – which are scattered over a precarious mountainside, will take several days, in part because access is so difficult.

There is no indication that terrorism was behind the crash, which also claimed the lives of 16 German children returning from Spain with two teachers.
