Israeli champions draw Celtic in Champions League

Hapoel Beersheva will face two-leg tie against Scottish side.

Hapoel Beersheva knocked out Olympiakos to reach the play-off tie

Brendan Rogers’ Celtic side stand in the way of Hapoel Beersheva reaching the group stage of next season’s Champions League.

The Israeli champions are in the competition for the first time, having won the Israeli League title for the first time in 40 years last year and will have to get past past fellow Israeli Nir Bitton, who plays in midfield for the Glasgow side.

The two legs will take place on 16/17 August and 23/24 August, with the first game being played at Celtic Park.

Maccabi Tel Aviv and Beitar Jerusalem also found out who they’ll face in their play-off ties to reach the group stage of the Europa League. Beitar Jerusalem face a tricky task in French side St Etienne, with the first leg in Israel. Tel Aviv are also at home first, they face Croatian side Hajduk Split. The first legs are played on 18 August, with the second leg a week later.
