Israeli champions face Moldovans in Champions League opener

Hapoel Beer Sheva drawn against FC Sheriff in first qualifier

Israeli champions Hapoel Beer Sheva have been drawn against Moldovan side FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the second qualifying round draw for this season’s Champions League.

The Israeli side will be taking part in their first Champions League campaign, and qualified for it by claiming the Israeli League title for the first time in 40 years.

The first leg, to be played in Israel, will take place on either 12 or 13 July, with the return a week later on 19/20th.

Two sides also found out their fate when the first qualifying round draw of the Europa League was also made. Beitar Jerusalem take on Bosnian side FK Sloboda Tuzla, playing away in the first leg. Maccabi Tel Aviv face Slovenian side ND Gorica, with the first leg in Israel. Ties take place on 14 & 21st July.

Maccabi Haifa have found out who’ll they’ll be facing in the second qualifying round draw, either Estonian side JK Nomme Kalju, or Lithuanian side FK Trakai.
