Israeli diplomats end global strike as funding row nears resolution
Embassy and consulate in London shut last week, before reopening on Friday morning, with a Facebook notice saying things had been 'temporarily resolved'
Israel’s embassy staff around the world called off their two-day strike at the end of last week after officials in Jerusalem moved towards resolving a funding row.
The Israeli embassy and consulate in London closed on Wednesday after Israeli diplomatic staff went on strike around the world, but it reopened again by Friday morning, with a Facebook notice saying things had been “temporarily resolved”.
Signs reading “Strike” in English and in Hebrew had been plastered across the locked embassy gates in High Street Kensington, as a notice appeared on the embassy’s Facebook page saying nothing would open until the strike ends.
Meetings, events and consular appointments were shelved, with staff only responding to consular emergencies. The Foreign Ministry accused the Finance Ministry of reneging on promises and “altering protocol in-place for decades”.
