Israel’s sole weightlifter at the Rio Games missed out on a medal on Tuesday evening.

Igor Olshanetskyi was competing in Group B of the men’s 105+kg event, though finished the 12-man contest in 9th place.

Divided into two disciplines, the snatch and the clean and jerk, he lifted both 160 and 165kg in the former, though failed three times at 170kg.

In the clean and jerk, he lifted 200kg, failed at 206kg, but then lifted 207kg, which coupled with the points from the snatch, saw him to 372 points. Group B was won by Uzbekistan’s Rustam Djangabaev, who registered 432 points.

The 30-year-old, who weighed in at 129.54, was born in Ukraine, and made aliyah six years ago.  Notable results have included a ninth place finish in the 2015 European Weightlifting Championships and 12th in the 2016 edition.
