Mixed fortunes for Israelis at French Open qualifiers

Julia Glushko failed to reach the first round of the WTA event in Stanford

Two Israelis begin their qualifying campaign on Tuesday as they bid to reach main draw at this year’s French Open.

Julia Glushko comfortably booked her place into the second round of qualifiers, thanks to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Japan’s Risa Ozaki,she next faces either Belgian Elise Mertens or American Katerina Stewart in the penultimate qualifying round

However, there was a first round defeat for Amir Weintraub, who was beaten, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 by Spaniard Jordi Samper-Montana.

Dudi Sela is the only Israeli through to the main round, Argentine Diego Schwartzman will also be in the first round draw, while Italian Camila Giorgi is the women’s first round main draw.

Noah Rubin, 2014 Wimbledon junior boys’ winner, didn’t though progress past the first round of qualifiers after he was beaten 6-3, 6-4, by fellow American Dennis Novikov.
