Amir Weintraub begins his qualifying campaign to reach the main draw at Wimbledon on Monday

Israeli interest at this year’s Wimbledon Championships begins on Monday with both Amir Weintraub and Yoni Erlich involved in qualifying action.

Needing to come through three qualifying rounds to book his place in the first round of the main draw, Weintraub, competing in the singles tournament, faces a tough opening match against the 18th seed, American Bjorn Fratangelo, when he’s fourth on Court 3.

Erlich will this year be teaming up with German Philipp Petzschner in the doubles, and the seventh seeds face Dutch duo Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop in their first round clash, which sees them third up on Court 8. They need to win two matches to reach the main draw.

In the women’s qualifying singles, both Julia Gluhsko and Shahar Peer, ranked 9th and 10th respectively, are set to begin their campaign on Tuesday.

Dudi Sela will be in the main draw for the Championships, which start next Monday and will be taking part in the Nottingham Open in his final warm-up tournament. He qualified for the main draw on Sunday, and takes on Spaniard
Daniel Gimeno-Traver in their first round match on Monday afternoon.
