J-LGBTQ discussions at Liberal Judaism Biennial Conference

Liberal Judaism’s Biennial Conference will take place in Reading this weekend, featuring a diverse line-up of activities that includes three sessions on LGBT issues.

One of the ‘pink’ highlights will be Liberal Judaism’s pioneering exhibition Rainbow Jews, which launched in February at the London School of Economics.

Carried out with Lottery Heritage funding, Rainbow Jews is Britain’s first ever archive of Jewish Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History.

On Saturday, Radical Roots Workshop participants will find out what inspired Rainbow Jews project manager Surat Knan to set up the initiative and watch video interviews with Jewish LGBT people who revealed their stories in the project.

On Sunday, Rabbis Elizabeth Tikvah Sarah and Aaron Goldstein will be discussing Transgender, Transcending Gender and Binary Tyranny both in the wider society and within Jewish teaching. Later on Sunday, diversity campaigner Surat Knan will invite the audience to an open discussion on ‘The Future of Sex & Gender – the Liberal path to true equality and diversity.’
