Jess Glynne says she was turned away from posh restaurant for wearing sportswear

Pop star Jess Glynne said on Monday that she was turned away from a glittering Mayfair restaurant due to the way she dressed which included a hoodie, baseball cap and trainers.

The north London singer’s claim that she was subjected to “pure discrimination” at the Sexy Fish Restaurant sparked a flood of criticism and some support from online users, causing the star’s name to appear in Twitter’s trending section in the UK on Tuesday afternoon.

Glynne, 30, wrote that she and a friend were denied entry by two members of staff due to their appearance. “I think the attitude of your staff needs to change as that was pure discrimination. Thanks and bye”, the singer wrote, ending her message with a kiss emoji.

In her Instagam post, Glynne also said the two were greeted “with pure joy” and “a banging meal with wicked service” at the nearby Latin American restaurant Amazonico.

Sexy Fish Restaurant, which has not addressed Glynne’s criticism, operates under a dress code.

Its website states: “We request that guests do not wear sportswear, beachwear. ripped jeans, flip flops, sliders or workout trainers (smarter, fashion trainers may be permitted).”

High-end dishes featured on the swanky venue’s a la carte menu include a £105 steak and beluga caviar priced at £210.
