38-0… but the 37th goal was clearly offside!

38-0 is a solid opening partnership in a Test match but on Sunday it was the final score in a record-breaking football match that saw a goal every two-and-a-half minutes.

HMH (Highgate & Muswell Hill), top of the Maccabi Football League Premier Division, demolished hapless Division Two team West Hendon Wallabies in the Cyril Anekstein Cup with no less than 13 players finding the back of the net.

While more than tripling their previous highest margin of victory of 12-0,  the side’s manager Avi Goldberg said they must have had at least 50 shots during the 90 minutes at the Hive. Goldberg believes the previous record high score in the competition was 23-0.

Oscar Wagner netted seven, with Leo Ackerman and Dom Feldman scoring five apiece, Alex Moss with four, and three claimed hat-tricks.

Goldberg said it was “a very satisfying day indeed as we smashed the record victory margin and without conceding”, adding that the Wallabies should “proud of the way they conducted themselves” despite the scoreline.

West Hendon Wallabies declined to comment.
