Jewish hairdresser crowned barber of the year at national competition

A Jewish hairdresser in Finchley Central has been crowned barber of the year at a national tournament in London this month.

Nick Lee, 32, from Stanmore, of Mantra Men’s Hair and Grooming, won the accolade at Britain’s Best 2019 on October 6.

His winning look judged by an expert panel was a classic swept-back haircut created within 35 minutes. “It was quite unexpected. There were other good haircuts and barbers,” he said.

“It was really great and it’s generated a little bit more local interest and clients really like the fact that I’m barber of the year,” he added.

The competition saw stylists from up and down the country compete across several categories at Salon International in ExCel London in an event organised by trade association the National Hairdressers Federation and its sister group the National Beauty Federation.

The associations’ CEO Hilary Hall said: “Britain’s did not disappoint – the level of talent from across the UK hotly contesting the top spot was outstanding, so Nick should be proud of his huge achievement.”

Elsewhere, a Jewish salon in Borehamwood won the best colour salon in Hertfordshire at a regional trade awards night.

Scott Warren, owner of Hair Inc, brought back the prize from the Hertfordshire Salon Awards hosted by hairdresser Errol Douglas on October 27.
