A leading Jewish lawyer has chosen as the next Parliamentary Standards Commissioner to oversee MPs behaviour.

Daniel Greenberg, who has enjoyed a distinguished career in Whitehall, has been picked for the role after an “exacting process”, Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle has confirmed.

MPs are now expected to approve his five year long appointment to the post.

Greenberg has served as counsel for domestic legislation, a parliamentary counsel for 20 years, and counsel to the Commons Speakers Office for six years.

Two years ago he was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath.

The House of Commons Commission said it is “certain that Daniel Greenberg has the right combination of background and personal qualities to meet this challenge.”
