Jewish leaders condemn attack on Muswell Hill Islamic Centre

The Board of Deputies of British Jews have released a statement following a suspected arson attack on the Somalian Islamic Bravanese Welfare Centre in Barnet last night.

“The Board of Deputies of British Jews was shocked to hear of the suspected violent attack on the Somalian Islamic Bravanese Welfare Centre, in Muswell Hill, in London.

On behalf of the Jewish community it wishes to express our solidarity with the Muslim community at this time.

Vivian Wineman, President of the Board, commented that “attacks of this nature are an affront not only to the Muslim community, not only to all minority groups, but to all decent people in this country”.[divider]

Rabbi David Mason of Muswell Hill United Synagogue has also joined condemnation of the attack.

“This terrible attack on a peaceful community centre has shocked us all and the sympathies of everyone at Muswell Hill Synagogue are with our local Muslim community today. We will work to ensure that the Bravanese community have all the support they need and that this disgraceful incident does not disrupt the harmony that exists between all our local communities.”

Police are treating the fire as suspicious as they investigate it’s cause among reports of English Defence League graffiti found at the scene.
