Jewish News Q&A with Yesh Atid leader, Yair Lapid – Apply for tickets

Yair Lapid is set to take questions from a community audience of hundreds during his first visit to London since entering Israeli politics.

The Yesh Atid leader is travelling to the capital for the Jewish News’ inaugural policy conference, in partnership with BICOM, later this month. Lapid – whose firing as finance minister over a budget dispute with Benjamin Netanyahu triggered this year’s election – will tackle issues, including Israel-Diaspora relations, the Jewish state’s relationship with the world and the challenges and opportunities facing the country during the event in north London on Monday 22 June.

Justin Cohen, news editor of Jewish News, said: “Yair Lapid made a triumphant entrance on to Israel’s political landscape in 2013, but this will be the first time that members of the UK Jewish community have had an opportunity to hear from him first hand. “We are hugely proud to be hosting one of Israel’s most prominent and charismatic political figures.”

Lapid – for many years an influential journalist and TV presenter – formed Yesh Atid in 2013, bursting on to the political scene with 19 seats before taking on the finance portfolio. He won 11 seats in March’s election and was the first Israeli political leader to condemn last week’s National Union of Students vote for a boycott of Israel. He said at the time: “At the end of the month I will be visiting the UK. I intend to raise the issue with the government and leading opinion leaders so that we can fight against this.”

Jewish News’ partners for this Q&A event, to be held at a north London venue, include the Board of Deputies, the Jewish Leadership Council and the Union of Jewish Students.

The Q&A follows a series of Jewish News events with UK politicians including Boris Johnson, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg.
