Jewish News shortlisted for Free Newspaper of the Year

Jewish News has been shortlisted for the prestigious Regional Press Awards for the third consecutive year.

This newspaper is in the category of Free Weekly Newspaper of the Year, competing against Camden New Journal, Islington Tribune and The Slough and Windsor Express.

Three landmark issues were submitted with the nomination, including a special edition for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz edited by a panel of second and third generation and featuring portraits of survivors taken by the Duchess of Cambridge, a dedicated issue focusing on mental health at the height of the first wave in the pandemic, and Jewish News’ memorial edition marking the death of former Chief Rabbi, Lord Sacks.

Co-publishers Richard Ferrer and Justin Cohen said: “These were three of the most timeless and important issues in the paper’s 24-year history.

“That two of them were produced during lockdown while working from our homes is a huge testament to our small but hugely talented team and we’re thrilled their tireless efforts in such a difficult year have been recognised in this way.”

Jewish News has previously won Press Gazette Free Newspaper of the Year and two years ago was ‘highly commended’ by judges at the Regional Press Awards in 2018.

The winner will be announced on 16 September.
