Jewish News teams up with top broadcaster Jonny Gould to launch latest podcast

Jewish News has teamed up with one of Britain’s top broadcasters and his regular podcast featuring “all the Jewish and Israeli stories you’d never hear on mainstream radio”.

Jonny Gould’s Jewish State is the brainchild of Gould, 51, who has worked in journalism for more than 30 years and is a familiar face on Sky News’ press review and Channel 5’s Jeremy Vine.

With a background in sports journalism, Gould also serves as a regular football pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live.

The father-of-two, who is married to Karine and lives in London, came up with the idea for his podcast in December, after suggesting a similar programme to BBC London radio.

However, bosses turned him down after explaining it wasn’t “multicultural or diverse enough”, spurring Gould on to launch his own programme.

He secured his first interview with Sgt Benjamin Anthony and Brig Gen Amir Avivi, who together are meeting global leaders to bring peace to the Middle East through their New State Solution.

Since then, he has also interviewed Trevor Horn, the multi-million selling record producer of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, about why he has attended synagogue for the last 32 years – despite never having converted to Judaism – as well as media lawyer Mark Lewis on moving to Israel amid his battle against antisemitism.

Gould’s interview with MPs Ian Austin and John Mann on their fight against anti-Jewish racism in the Labour party proved particularly popular among listeners.

His latest podcast, which launches this week, is an interview with Yaakov Peri, the former head of Shin Bet on his remarkable service to the State of Israel.

“I want to heal the world with Jewish and Israeli ideas,” adds Gould. “And people really open up to me. My podcast is a very personal, deep down, serious questioning of my interviewees with some responses that you just never hear on mainstream radio.”
