Jewish social care leaders hold Downing Street summit

A delegation of Jewish community leaders met at 10 Downing Street for a special health and social care summit.

The group, chaired by the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), met with Nick Seddon, the Prime Minister’s Special Adviser for Health and Social Care for the latest in a series of “vital” roundtable discussions with the Government.

Members of the delegation – which included representatives from the JLC, Jewish Women’s Aid, Norwood, Jewish Care, Jami, and Nightingale Hammerson – discussed a variety of issues facing the Jewish health and social care sector.

On the agenda was the impact of the national living wage on the social care sector, mental health awareness, and domestic violence.

Praising the “invaluable” work of Jewish social care organisations, JLC external affairs director Bernard Hughes said: “Those working in social care provide a critical service to our community and the issues they are facing are varied and complex.

“A continued dialogue with government enables them to help our community more effectively.

He added: “It is vital that the JLC is able to facilitate these meetings to ensure the continued success of our social care organisations as they support the most vulnerable within our community.”
