Jewish students get freshers hotline to help them into uni

A freshers hotline has been launched to help incoming university students prepare for their new lives on campus.

The Union of Jewish Students have set up the dedicated number to offer assistance on everything from the social life at Jewish societies (J-Socs) to finding kosher food and accommodation.

It will be available to all students, but is expected to be particularly beneficial to those who either did better than expected or didn’t get into their chosen university, and who now need additional information about a campus or city they hadn’t previously considered.

UJS President Josh Holt said: “Going to university is the start of a really exciting period, but it can be daunting – especially if you don’t get the A Level or college results you hoped for. With almost 100 years of experience, UJS and J-Soc are here for you from the very start of your university journey, so if you’re doing Clearing or Adjustment and would like to find out about Jewish life on campuses you hadn’t previously considered – from social life and synagogues to kosher food and accommodation – just give us a call.’

Students can ring 020 7424 3295 to reach the hotline, which will be open between 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on the day of results (17 August) and 9:30 am to 3 pm the day after. The line will remain open for the following week.
