Jewish volunteer heroes: nominations sought

Jewish community members who work with charities and voluntary organisations are being asked to nominate those “truly worthy of an accolade” as the Jewish Volunteer Network (JVN) launched its 2014 Awards.

An independent panel, chaired by Dame Mary Marsh, will judge the winners of nine different awards from nominations of community heroes who nominators believe merit their moment in the spotlight.

“For too long the thousands of volunteers who look after our community have gone unnoticed and undervalued,” read a statement.

JVN President Rosalind Preston said the Jewish community was “fortunate enough to have a whole army of committed volunteers,” adding that the awards on 8 September would attract a high number of nominations.

Members of the public will also be given the chance to vote from a shortlist of those nominated for the Jewish News People’s Choice Award at a later date.
