JFS students receive a record 21 Oxbridge offers

Sixth formers from JFS have received a record number of offers from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

21 students have been offered places for September 2016; 11 from Oxford, and 10 from Cambridge. 

12 girls and nine boys came through the rigorous preparation process of mock interviews, mentoring and study group sessions.

One of the successful applicants was Jed Soleiman, who received an offer to read Geography at Downing College, Cambridge. The 18-year-old from Hendon said he was grateful to JFS for the support he recieved. “My teachers gave up a great deal of time to help me ensure I was as prepared as possible.”

Abigail Woodrow of Borehamwood was offered a place to read Politics Philosophy and Economics at Pembroke Oxford.

“My mum didn’t go to university so I am particularly proud to have received this offer.” She said. “JFS had helped her prepare well for her interview: “I really felt ready for what I was about to face. I will always be grateful for the support the school have given me.”

Headteacher Jonathan Miller added: “We are exceptionally proud of our impressive group of 21 Oxbridge offers for 2016.

This outcome is indicative of the conscientious and hardworking students we have in our Sixth Form. 

I am grateful to the many members of staff who have supported all our applicants and look forward to sharing the outcome of the summer examinations in August with much anticipation.”

Over 95 percent of JFS students continue to higher education, with 6 percent attending Oxford or Cambridge over the last two years. This places the Kenton-based Jewish school within the top ten non-selective state schools in the country, in terms of proportion of higher education applications being accepted for Oxford and Cambridge.
