JLE and Jewish News host uplifting live musical Havdallah event

An in-person audience of 160 and hundreds online globally joined an uplifting Havdallah event of music, inspiration and prayers on Saturday.

The Jewish Learning Exchange (JLE), in collaboration with Jewish News, orchestrated the event, which featured renowned musician Asaf Flumi and Muzica, who devoted their time to perform for the occasion.

Israeli refugee families in the UK were amongst the attendees. The resounding message of the night was “Am Yisrael Chai,” as eloquently put by Rabbi Morgan,  Jewish News news editor and co-publisher Justin Cohen and the former commander of the IDF Navy and army reserve veteran, Colonel Commander Amit Livi.

They all shared inspiring words and expressed how the event had illuminated the pockets of light and hope within the community.

JLE CEO, Rabbi Morgan said: “The evening was incredibly uplifting and exactly what we needed at this time. As Jews, we have weathered numerous challenges and the JLE serves as a beacon of unity and belonging. In times of fear, we offer a safe space, uplifting spirits, and fostering a sense of community for those who join us.”

Attendees echoed this sentiment, with one individual stating, “I was feeling down this week and the evening lifted my spirits and instilled hope for a brighter tomorrow.”

Lone soldier, Afura, whose family is on the front lines, had the honour of lighting the Havdallah candle.

Jewish News’ Justin Cohen expressed his gratitude for the evening and the importance of Shabbat in such times, underscoring the need for unity and support against the rising hate targeted at the Jewish community.

The soldiers at the borders remained in everyone’s thoughts, and the event resonated as a heartfelt show of solidarity with Israel during its challenging moments.

The evening left all with a resounding message: though the fight continues, unity, hope, and support for one another will lead to a brighter and more resilient future.
