JLGB getting ready to volunteer

The Jewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade was celebrating this week after hearing it is to get a share of a £10 million government grant.

Chancellor George Osborne named JLGB as one of the 14 youth organisations to benefit from the Social Action Fund grant, which aims to get more young people volunteering.

JLGB bosses hailed the “major boost” after chief executive Neil Martin said the funding would “expand and create new JLGB groups and programmes across the entire Jewish community”.

The money was raised from banks’ fines following the LIBOR scandal, when several were found to have manipulated the financial markets. Osborne said: “It is right money paid in fines by people who demonstrated the worst values in our society is now being used to support those who demonstrate the very best and bring about a positive change.”
