Sara Conway will face Tory incumbent MP Mike Freer and says she will be a 'strong voice' on Brexit and antisemitism

A member of the Jewish Labour Movement (JLM) has been chosen to represent Labour in the marginal seat of Finchley and Golders Green at the next general election.

Sara Conway, who is Jewish, will face Tory incumbent MP Mike Freer, who has remained in his seat despite challenges from Alison Moore, Sarah Sackman and Jeremy Newmark.

The Barnet Borough councillor, who backs a People’s Vote on Brexit, has pledged to be a “strong voice” on Brexit and antisemitism.

“On antisemitism I have been a consistent and solid voice for dialogue, empathy and education, but also for a party where we are clear that it is not acceptable,” she said.

She added: “I will never be afraid to have the tough conversations that need to be had.’

Conway said she would be working hard to “reverse Tory austerity”, having observed in her role the impact of austerity on local services.

“I have real understanding of our local communities from regular campaigning in Finchley and Golders Green over the past two years,” she said.

“I have seen every day how hard life has been for many people and how Tory austerity has done so much damage to schools, local services and social care.”
