JLM: ‘Parliament suspension undemocratic, but Hitler comparisons disgraceful’

The Jewish Labour Movement has criticised “disgraceful” comparisons between Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s move to suspend Parliament and Nazi Germany.
The group condemned on Thursday claims the PM’s decision to prorogate Parliament until October 14th evokes Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany.
Following the news, online users shared comparisons to Hitler’s exploitation of the Weimar Republic’s struggling democracy, prompting the Twitter hashtag #Reichstag to trend in the UK.
One user wrote: “1933. Chancellor Hitler asks Reich President Hindenburg to dissolve the Reichstag. We know what happened next.”
JLM tweeted today: “The suspension of parliament by Boris Johnson is reprehensible and undemocratic.
“However, likening this to Hitler and Nazi Germany is deeply inappropriate and a disgraceful minimisation of some of the most heinous crimes in human history.”
The Queen approved yesterday Johnson’s request to prorogue parliament, which critics argue will restrict the time available for Brexit opponents to intervene.
