Joint Jewish-Christian campaign launched to tackle anti-Semitism

A new campaign is bringing together Jews and Christians to tackle anti-Semitism.

The initiative from the Council of Christians and Jews aims to facilitate events on a national and regional level and comes in response to the recent rise of anti-Jewish hate across Europe, which organisers said was high among the concerns of both communities.

A spokesman said the Still An Issue project “aims to form a network of engaged communities and individuals who are aware of these issues and can be activated to respond in real-time to events.

It will create a support system across the Christian and Jewish communities to show solidarity at difficult times and facilitate dialogue, keeping relationships open and communities connected”. 

Regular updates featuring news stories and initiatives linked to the campaign will be sent to a special mailing list while the campaign will have a dedicated section on CCJ’s new website.

In response to the campaign, a Church of England interfaith officer has suggested a scheme which will see members of the Christian community join Jewish families on their Shabbat walks to shul.

On March 23 CCJ will host a seminar featuring the Inquiry’s Danny Stone and CST’s Mark Gardner.

Last week, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby hosted the launch of the All-Party parliamentary Inquiry last week, describing the rise in anti-Semitism as a “blasphemy” and saying he was often “embarrassed” by some of the Church’s failings in tackling the scourge.
