Junior through to second round at Australian Open

Israeli Yshai Oliel wins first round clashes in both the singles and doubles events in Melbourne.

Yshai Oliel is through to the second round of both singles and doubles competition

Israeli junior tennis star Yshai Oliel has secured his place into the second round of both the junior boy’s singles and doubles events at the Australian Open.

Seeded fourth in the singles event, the 17-year-old beat Italian Francesco Forti 6-3, 6-1, and next faces Australian Matthew Dellavedova for a place in third round on Tuesday.

Oliel is also competing in the doubles tournament, where he is teaming up with Zizou Bergs. The Israel-Belgian duo are the sixth seeds, and having beaten Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori and the Czech Republic’s Michael Vrbensky 2-6, 6-4, 10-4. They next face India’s Siddhant Banthia and Turkey’s Kaya Gore, also scheduled for Tuesday.
