Kalontarov fails to make a splash in Rio

Olympics over for 19-year-old after 41st place finish in heats.

Ziv Kalontarov missed put on qualifying for the 50m freestyle semi-finals

Ziv Kalontarov bid farewell to the Rio Olympic Games on Thursday evening after he failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the 50m freestyle event.

The 19-year-old, who won gold at the 2016 European Championships in Baku, finished in heat a time of 22.16, which after all 11 heats, was a mere 1.5 seconds slower that the top 16 – who reach the two semi-final heats.

It was the second disappointment, for him after he similarly failed to qualify for the 100m butterfly on Tuesday.
