Katz on the crest of winning table tennis double
Jewish veteran one win away from landing Wembley and Harrow League title and cup.
Jewish table tennis star Dov Katz is one win away from helping his side Apollo land a Wembley and Harrow Table Tennis League double.
Katz, who’s a former top ten England junior and current European Maccabi VETTS doubles champion, plays alongside Costas Papantoniou, the third-ranked England national veteran and his son Lucas, who’s a highly ranked England junior.
The league comprises of seven divisions, with Katz’s team the champions of the top division. With one league match still to be played – of an 18-match campaign – his side sit 19 points clear at the top of the table, with Katz having played in 15 of the games, nine of which he was named man-of-the-match.
Delighted with the win, Katz, who’s a partner at Teacher Stern LLP law firm and, as singles silver medallist at the European Maccabi Games in Berlin, considered the Jewish number two for over 40’s in Europe, said: “The Wembley and Harrow Table Tennis League is one of the strongest in England and to become champions, with still one match to play, is a very proud moment for me.
“It’s been a true team effort and I’ve been lucky enough to play alongside my long-standing friend Costas, an England VETT international. My game has improved this season as a result of his input and at the moment I feel that I’m playing the best table tennis of my sporting career – which is reflected in my averages and man-of-the-match awards.”
Their final league game takes place on Thursday, before they look to achieve that league and cup double when they face Lowlands in the cup final on 3 April.
