Kerem net Year 6 netball title

Kerem celebrate their win

The latest Maccabi GB Year 6 schools netball tournament saw Kerem deservedly ending the day as champions.

Ten primary schools attended the event at Maccabi London Brady Sports Ground, Rowley Lane, which saw them bring 18 teams, making it the highest-attended primary Schools netball event to date.

In total, more than 150 girls took part in the day which saw the teams separated into two group stages. Each school competed in a round-robin, league format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals.

Having developed their netballing skills over the years from their schools and Maccabi GB’s Sports Coaches, the level of talent on show was impressive. The atmosphere was boosted by many of the girls’ parents and supporters cheering them on from the sidelines.

After the early stages of the tournament, the semi-final stages produced two good games of netball with Wolfson Hillel winning a pulsating game against HJPS and Kerem outscoring Sinai to reach the final.

As with the Year 5 netball, the deciding game would see Kerem take on Wolfson Hillel. The end result too was identical to the previous event with Kerem being crowned champions after an extremely entertaining game of netball that saw 12 goals scored. The afternoon finished with a sporting medals ceremony to both finalists and the trophy was awarded to the victorious Kerem side.

Maccabi GB’s School Sports Coordinator, Alex Elf, said: “This has been the best attended netball event we have ever delivered which shows the growing interest and participation in sports from our Jewish schools. It is also great to see the quality of the games with some star performers here this afternoon, I am sure we will see more and more from these players as they get older.”
