A-level success for acid attack duo Katie and Kirstie

The father of one of the north London teenagers attacked with acid in Zanzibar has expressed his pride in his daughter as he confirmed that both had secured places at university.

Kirstie Trup and Katie Gee, both 18, are recovering after being attacked on a volunteering holiday on the African island.

Kirstie’s father Marc confirmed the pair had achieved the necessary grades and that his daughter will study history at Bristol, while Katie will study sociology at Nottingham. He said: “We are really proud of Kirstie. She’s a very determined young lady. I’m sure she will go on to achieve success in life.”

His daughter was due to have a skin graft at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital after suffering chemical burns. She had been temporarily discharged after three days of medical care, but returned to hospital for further treatment.

Earlier this week Mr Trup told the Jewish News she jumped into the sea following the attack, which helped limit the extent of her injuries. ”That completely altered the result, the salt water and the acid,” he said.

Miss Gee is understood to have sustained more serious injuries and is also expected to need a skin graft. On Thursday, she took to Twitter to say: “On the plus side I’m off to Nottingham!”

Both attended the Jewish Free School in Harrow. Staff said they could not comment on the pair’s results.

Elsewhere, Jewish schools across the capital were  celebrating another outstanding year of A Level results. Pupils at JFS, Immanuel, Hasmonean King Solomon and Yavneh – which posted its first ever A Level results – have been discovering whether they have secured their chosen spots at university.

More than 52 percent of all results were A* or A at JFS while almost 83 percent were marked at A* to A. Exactly one week after news broke of the acid attack on teenagers Kirstie Trup and Katie Gee in Zanzibar, Trup has reason to celebrate after being confirmed among the school’s top performers – with 3 A*s.

Those results were mirrored by Gemma Green, Joel Rosenberg, David Miron, Gil reich and Alexander Zukadinovic. Another three students, Jonathan Davis, Rachel Grabiner and Chesney Ovsiovic, earned 2 A*s and 2 As. In a record for Europe’s oldest Jewish secondary, a staggering 77 pupils achieved at least As in all three A Levels taken.

Headteacher Jonathan Miller said: “These record results, once again, reflect the outstanding academic achievements of all our students. We pass on our heartiest congratulations to our students, their parents and our staff on such delightful examination results.”
