Kosher Kingdom reassures public ahead of Pesach as coronavirus cases rise to 51

The UK’s biggest Kosher supermarket reassured the community ahead of Pesach as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rises to 51.

Rivki Rokach, a manager at Kosher Kingdom in Golders Green, sought to assuage any fears over possible shortages ahead of Pesach linked to the virus.

The shop is taking all “reasonable precautions and monitoring the situation”, she said on Tuesday, with most Pesach-related products already in-store or “on the way”.

“We do not envision a shortage, but at this point in time cannot know for certain,” she added.

But Rokach urged customers to shop early “in these uncertain times” to ensure they are well-stocked ahead of the Jewish holiday.

The health secretary Matt Hancock described the threat posed by the virus in the UK as “increasingly serious.”

“As of 9am today there were 51 confirmed cases in the UK and it’s becoming more likely that we will see widespread transmission here in this country,” he said on Tuesday.

But the UK remains “well-prepared for infectious disease outbreaks of this kind”, he said.
