Labour ‘happy’ to look at cases where MPs may have stoked tensions towards Jews

Labour would be “happy to take a look” at cases in which party MPs are alleged to have used rhetoric which has inflamed tensions against British Jews, a spokesperson for Sir Keir Starmer has insisted.

Responding to a question from lobby journalists in Westminster, the spokesman said the party would look into “specific cases” that may have arisen as a result of speeches made during the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The Labour leadership have faced repeated criticism from within the community over their failure to deliver clear condemnation of antisemitic incidents at a spate of pro-Palestinian demonstrations across the country.

MPs such as Richard Burgon, John McDonnell and Imran Hussain have all spoken from the stage at protests at which antisemitic placards and chants have been seen and heard.

Labour’s Naz Shah issued a statement saying she would “never tolerate antisemitism and I totally condemn anyone perpetrating it” after a protest in Bradford she attended was dogged with antisemitic chants.
