The party confirmed to Jewish News that it is investigating Angela Ormerod over an allegedly anti-Semitic tweet sent on Thursday.

In the tweet, she posted a picture of Jewish Labour MP Margaret Hodge with the text “Jews control the media.”

In the image, claims are made about the MP’s family’s business, accusing her of dodging taxes and of racking up more than a million pounds in expenses.

Hodge, who confronted Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn last week and called him “an anti-Semite and a racist” after the party’s National Executive Committee declined to adopt the IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, will reportedly be disciplined by the party.

A Labour Party spokesperson said: “The Labour Party takes all complaints of antisemitism extremely seriously and we are committed to challenging and campaigning against it in all its forms. Complaints about antisemitism are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”
