Labour quashes rumours of action against ‘vexatious’ anti-Semitism claims

The Labour Party has denied that there are anti-Semitism cases stacking up for investigation and quashed rumours that those making “vexatious” claims of anti-Semitism would themselves be disciplined.

Labour sources said both stories were nonsense, after The Times reported that there were hundreds of outstanding matters and that the team handling complaints had been reduced to one.

Elsewhere, in a blog on the left-leaning news site Sqwarkbox, there were suggestions that the party’s new code of conduct would clamp down on those thought to be making malicious or vexatious claims.

Describing it as “fiction,” a Labour Party source explained that the idea of including a section on vexatious claims was not – and never had been – up for discussion, saying: “The working group has not and is not considering this proposal.”

On the Times article, a Labour spokesperson said: “We have robust processes for dealing with complaints we receive. We don’t comment on staffing matters.”

Labour say there is a team investigating complaints and that this team recently progressed a large number of complaints submitted by the Jewish Labour Movement, only a minority of which related to Labour party members.
