Laura Pidcock resigns from Labour NEC

Corbynista former MP Laura Pidcock has today resigned from Labour’s ruling body, claiming it’s a “hostile territory for socialists” and attacking the decision to admit former Tory Christian Wakeford.

In her resignation statement, Pidcock referenced her support for former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn writing that you cannot appeal “to the right of the party to do the right thing”.

This comes after the left of the party lost two NEC votes yesterday – the restoration of Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour whip and the scrapping of the retroactive application of the rule which allowed Starmer to proscribe certain groups.

Pidcock – who has been a vocal supporter of Corbyn – added that she feels a “deep unease” that Starmer welcomed defector Christian Wakeford into the party.

The defection of the Bury South MP – who crossed the floor to the Labour Party last week – was seen by some as a vote of confidence in Starmer and his handling of the antisemitism crisis within Labour.

Pidcock has additionally accused Starmer and his team of being “void of ideas” and “lacking vision”.

Pidcock explained: “I have sadly come to the conclusion that I can’t serve on the NEC any longer. I can’t have decisions which do so much damage to the membership, made in my name.

“When I don’t feel like I’m making a difference I want to put my energy elsewhere.”
