Leading scholar on anti-Semitism, Robert Wistrich dies at 70

A leading expert on anti-Semitism has died of a heart attack in Rome, aged 70.

Robert Wistrich was preparing to address the Italian senate when he died on Tuesday evening.
Born in Kazakhstan in 1945 to Polish parents, he moved across Europe, eventually to England, where he studied at Cambridge.
Wistrich was the author of many books, including Socialism And The Jews, which received the American Jewish Committee award and The Longest Hatred, which receiving the H.H. Wingate Prize for non-fiction.
Charles Small, executive director of the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy said he was “saddened and shocked” to hear about his death, hailing him as a “a preeminent scholar on the study of anti-Semitism”. A true intellectual” and a “leading scholar on the contemporary manifestations of this longest hatred, a term Wistrich actually made popular.”
