Lib Dem criticism but no action over David Ward’s Paris tweets

Former Lib Dem MP David Ward

The Liberal Democrats have criticised David Ward’s tweets following the Paris atrocities but failed to comment on calls for disciplinary action against the controversial politician.

The Bradford East MP sparked fresh anger after taking to the micro-blogging site yesterday to denounce the presence of Israel’s leader at the record-breaking unity march. He wrote: Netanyahu in Paris march – what!!! Makes me feel sick.”

After people around the world used the words Je suis Charlie (I am Charlie) and Je suis Juif (I am Jewish) to pay tribute to the France’s terror victims, he added minutes later: “Je suis #Palestinian”. A Lib dem spokesperson said: “David ward does not speak for the party on this issue. He has well known and strongly held views on this issue but this tweet was clear in bad taste.

“Our sympathies are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and were caught up in those horrific attacks. Now is a time for us to come together in solidarity and in defence of the freedoms that we hold dear.”
